When a New Year begins we tend to wish everyone a “Happy and Prosperous New Year.” The definition of prosperous is: “successful in material terms; flourishing financially; bringing wealth and success, having good fortune.”

Are we truly wishing wealth to everyone? I propose that we look at the word prosperous in a slightly different manner, one not related to monetary wealth. I would like to see us focus on a wealth of happiness, have us flourish in joy, strive for success in relationships, and obtain good fortune in spiritual blessings.

Of course we can still work hard for material wealth and riches, but if we are not kind to our fellowman and have no one to love and care about, what good is all of that material wealth? My wish for each of us this New Year is to practice being more kind to others, and then being blessed as the wealth of goodness returns tenfold.

Following are 15 ways to help you achieve a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

1. Be a more courteous driver: Let someone go ahead in a merge, let a car in that’s waiting, and use kind words to drivers on the road.

2. Be more generous: Pay for someone’s groceries, their toll, or be a bigger tipper.

3. Smile more: Smile at a stranger on the street or a car driving by.

4. Ask more questions: Ask about people you meet and be genuinely interested in their life. Ask them how they are and mean it.

5. Be kinder: Don’t talk about people behind their back and be kinder to their face.

6. Be positive: Post positive comments on Social Media. When you are speaking to others about anything use positive words.

7. Respect others more: We all have an opinion and one is not right over the other, so respect others voice and opinions, you don’t have to agree.

8. Shake more hands: When you enter a room introduce yourself with a handshake.

9. Be early: Leave a few minutes early for your destination so you can slow down and enjoy the scenery.

10. Treat all elderly as if they were your grandma: Be helpful, patient, and loving. You will be old someday so think about how you would like to be treated.

11. Be Happy: Sing in your car or dance when someone is looking. When someone asks how you are reply with words like, great, wonderful, amazing, and you will become that. Our brain believes what we say.

12. Stay in touch: If you think of a friend that you haven’t talked to in a while pick up the phone and give them a call, stop by, or plan a lunch date. Write a letter to someone that has had a positive influence in your life.

13. Give Gratitude: Be grateful for the blessings you have in your life and be sure to express gratitude to those that help you in anyway. Say “Thank You” on a daily basis.

14. Make peace with your past: Learn from the past so you will have growth for the future. Carrying the burdens of yesterday weighs down the present.

15. Love One Another: Show love to everyone, no matter the color of their skin, the country they come from or the gender they are. We are all children of God. He is perfect and He made His children in His image. We are here to have experiences, to learn, to grow, to love, and to be loved, so let’s love one another.

How To Oil Pull

How-To Coconut Oil Pulling:

1. Oil pull first thing in the morning right after you get out of bed before you brush your teeth or drink anything.
2. Gently swish 1 – 2 tablespoons of coconut oil in your mouth and between your teeth for 10-20 minutes making sure that you don’t swallow any of the oil. Do this while showering and getting ready.
3. Spit out the oil in the trash and immediately rinse your mouth out with warm water (use salt water for added antimicrobial properties).
4. Then brush your teeth as normal.
5. You can add lemon or wild orange essential oils for flavor.

For the greatest benefits oil pulling 3-4x per week with coconut oil and also adding essential oils to your mixture.
 Bad Breath- 2 drops of Peppermint.
 Toothache- 2 drops of Clove.
 Cancer Sore- 2 drops of Basil.
 Gum Disease- 2 drops of Melaleuca.
 Receding Gums-2 drops of Myrrh.
 Cavities- 2 drops of Protective Blend
 Infection in the Mouth-2 drops of Clove.
Don’t be afraid to do combinations also

Coconut Macroons

Coconut Macaroons-Dr. Axe
• 6 egg whites
• 1/4 tsp. sea salt
• 1/2 cup honey
• 1 tbsp. vanilla extract
• 3 cups coconut flakes
Directions:
1. In mixing bowl, whisk eggs and sea salt until peaks form in the eggs
2. Add in raw honey, vanilla and coconut
3. Drop batter on to parchment paper on cookie sheet
4. Pinch off each at the top like a chocolate kiss
5. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 to 15 mins until lightly browned

Coconut Butter & Milk

Coconut Butter
• Shredded, unsweetened coconut (full-fat)
Instructions
Homemade Coconut Butter: I took a bag of shredded coconut and simply blended it in my Vita-Mix for about 3-5 minutes. (Note: If you use a food processor, blend for 10-ish minutes.)

Homemade Coconut Milk-Tropical Traditions
• 1 1/2 cups water
• 7/8 cup dry unsweetened coconut
In a medium-size kettle, heat the water, but do not bring it to a boil.
Place the coconut in a blender and add 1 cup of the hot water.
Blend for 2-3 minutes.
Place a colander in a bowl and line the colander with 4 thicknesses of cheesecloth.
Pour the blended coconut mixture into the cheesecloth and twist to extract the milk, letting the milk go into the bowl.
Return the coconut pulp to the blender and add the remaining 1/2 cup of hot water. Blend for 1-2 minutes, strain and press through the cheesecloth into the bowl.
Makes about 1 cup

York Peppermint Patties

York Peppermint Patties-Katie Higgins
• 2 tsp water
• 2 tbsp coconut butter
• 1/8 tsp pure peppermint extract (or as desired) I used 10-12 drops of Peppermint Essential oil
• 1 1/2 tsp agave or pure maple syrup
• 2 tbsp coconut oil (unrefined)
• 1/4 cup cocoa powder
• 2 tsp water
• 2 tbsp agave or pure maple syrup
Instructions
Combine first 4 ingredients in a little bowl. (Best if the coconut butter is not melted.) In a separate bowl, combine last 4 ingredients. In candy molds or cupcake liners, spread out 1/2 of the chocolate, then portion the mint filling on top. Finally, cover with the rest of the chocolate and freeze until chilled.

Almond Joy Cups

Almond Joy Cups

1 ½ cups of coconut oil
¼ cup almond butter
5 Tbs agave
1 Tbs vanilla
2 tsp cinnamon
¾ cup of cocoa powder
¼ cup hemp seeds
¼ cup almond meal
¼ cup shredded coconut

In small saucepan melt coconut oil over low heat.
In medium bowl, place melted coconut oil & almond butter. Stir until blended, whisk in agave and vanilla. Add cinnamon and stir until it is evenly blended.
Slowly stir in cocoa powder a tbs at a time. Mixture should be slightly runny, add almond meal, hempseeds, and coconut. Spoon into prepared mini cupcake trays. Pour mixture to halfway full. Chill in freezer for 15 minutes. When candies are set pop out and store in freezer safe container. Keep frozen.

Red Velvet Cake w/cream Cheese Frosting

Red Velvet Cupcakes-Elana Amsterdam Gluten free Cupcakes

½ cup coconut flour
2 Tbs unsweetened cocoa powder
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp baking soda
4 large eggs
2 Tbs grapeseed oil
½ cup agave nectar
1 Tbs red food dye made from vegetable dye.

Preheat oven to 350 °. Line 9 muffin cups with paper liner.
In a large bowl, combined the coconut flour, cocoa powder, salt, & baking soda. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, grapeseed oil, agave nectar, and food coloring. Blend the wet ingredients into the coconut flour mixture with a handheld mixer until thoroughly combined.
Scoop ¼ a cup of batter into each muffin cup.
Bake for 18-22 minutes or until toothpick comes out with just a few moisture crumbs attached. Frost & Serve.

Cream Cheese Frosting- Elana Amsterdam Gluten free Cupcakes

¾ c heavy cream
8 oz. cream cheese (room temp)
¼ c agave nectar

In a deep bowl, whip the cream with a handheld mixer until stiff peaks form. In a separate bowl, whip the cream cheese and agave until combined. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
